Dermatomes-Disc and nerve pain

The above chart shows the different nerve pain patterns caused by disc problems and nerve pinching. If you can trace your pain pattern, numbness, or tingling in one of these sections, you probably have a nerve injury and possible disc problems. This is potentially a serious injury that should be checked immediately by a medical provider (Chiropractor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Medical Doctor). If your symptoms aren’t going away, they will likely progress to causing loss of feeling and weakened muscles. My chiropractic treatment of these problems includes gentle adjusting to take pressure off of the disc and nerve and to massage muscle spasms creating more tension. I also always include core stabilization exercises and special exercises to help the disc go back to normal. If conservative care fails, spinal injections or surgery may be needed. The sooner you get conservative care for your problem, however, the less likely you will need surgery.

If your pain is just a twingy, sharp pain, it is more likely that you have a joint that is pinching or jamming and causing pain. Spinal joint pain like this responds extremely well to my gentle massage and chiropractic hybrid therapy.
